Sheila Grant

Performing Artist  |  Movement Director  |  Performing Arts Teacher  |  Pilates/Yoga 

Sheila Grant is a performing artist, choreographer, founder of Fluent Dance language school and a movement instructor. She completed professional theatre training in London, graduating with a First class BA (Hons) in Dance & Theatre Performance from Bird College through the University of Greenwich and a diploma from Trinity London.

Further acting training at Anthony Meindl Acting Workshops, London & Los Angeles, voice training with Louis Elman ADR Academy, Warner Bros  London.

Performance

​

With a performance career spanning stage productions in London, Europe and South America, Sheila has worked with some of the leading creative teams in the world of West End & Broadway musical theatre.

 

Stage performances:

Wicked  (Apollo Victoria Theatre London),  Cabaret  (Lyric Theatre London), Carousel  (Savoy Theatre London),  An American in Paris  (Germany),  

On The Town  (Germany & Switzerland),  Hello Dolly  (Switzerland),

The Feather Pillow  (Montevideo Uruguay & Buenos Aires Argentina).

Direction 

​

Associate director and choreographer of the American tour of The Mould That Changed the World, a musical about tackling the global problem of antibiotic resistance. The show played in Washington D.C and Atlanta after two sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2018 & 2022. Further info here .

Performing Arts Teaching

​

Sheila is a freelance teacher for the Royal Academy of Dance in London, their international schools and the Step into Dance outreach programme supporting children with additional learning needs. 

She has taught at Pineapple Studios London, Chelsea Ballet Schools, Perform Drama Ltd, Creative Movements London, The Cheerleading Company London and leads Wicked workshops on behalf of Wicked UK . 

​

Internationally, Sheila delivers performing arts workshops to all ages, abilities and nationalities. Her deep passion lies in serving communities facing inequality and compromised education, and has collaborated with educational centres in Uruguay, East Africa, West Africa and tribal orphanages in India.

​

She has partnered with Scottish charity Together in Sport Rwanda to work at a rural school in Rwanda, and is currently a dance trainer with international N.G.O MindLeaps; working with at-risk youth in post-conflict countries, using dance to access formal education and improved employment opportunities.

Fluent Dance Language School 

​

Sheila founded Fluent Dance language school after fifteen years of teaching and adapting classes to suit different languages and cultures in Africa, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, South America, and Europe.

Fluent Dance offers multi-discipline workshops that use dance, song, drama games, and voice work to naturally acquire English language. 

Fluent Dance promotes and strongly believes that effective communicative and performance skills are life-enhancing and should be available to all.

​

Fully certified to teach English as a foreign language, Sheila holds a 120-hour Advanced TEFL qualification and a further specialist 30-hour Teaching English Online qualification.

She also teaches and performs in German and Italian, splitting time living between several countries.

Pilates  |  Yoga 

​

Pilates 
Sheila's Pilates classes incorporate elements from dance technique, breath control and mindfulness. A strong emphasis is placed on clear, positive and encouraging language so participants can move with confidence and freedom. Being a keen marathon runner, Sheila has experience with injury management and incorporates injury prevention tips into classes.

Yoga

Sheila practices under the guidance of Swami Govindananda at the Sivananda Yoga Vidya Peetham ashram in southern Kerala, India where a complete holistic and traditional approach to yoga is offered: breathwork (pranayama), exercise (asana), relaxation (savasana), diet (satvic vegetarianism) and meditation (vendanta). 

Sheila's classes concentrate on simple flow, balance and relaxation.
